The new Multi-Use Games Area next to Wrenbury Recreation Ground, which is Phase 2 of the development of the Medical Centre site, is now open for use, and provides a significant boost to the sporting facilities available to us.

The area around Norbury and Norbury Common is one of those isolated pockets where BT are unwilling to provide conventional ADSL broadband due to the high cost of upgrading the infrastructure for the relatively small number of subscribers. One of the potential alternatives, TELES Wireless Broadband Internet GmbH, based in Berlin, who provide a Europe-wide satellite based system under the skyDSL brand appear to have suspended their UK service pending appointment of a new UK business partner. The only other alternative known to us that can provide a reasonably priced domestic service is West Midlands based Access Broadband, who use a two-way wireless systems via local relay stations. Although this is not available to everybody, as it requires a good view of one of their local relays (usually mounted on farm buildings), it does provide the "always on" convenience of conventional ADSL broadband, and is independent of the telephone. Remember, though, that "always on" makes your system much more vulnerable to hackers, so use of an effective and up to date firewall is essential, and please remember to secure your wireless network!
