Wrenbury Village Website

Scarecrow Trail

The idea was quite simple - a competition as part of the Friends of Wrenbury School Millennium Celebration and Country Fayre to see who could make the most imaginative scarecrow. The village took the competition to heart, and over a hundred scarecrows appeared in gardens throughout Wrenbury and the surrounding area over the weekend of 15-16 July. Wall to wall sunshire over the entire weekend drew in the crowds, and hundreds of people paid 50p for a scarecrow trail guide and competition entry, answering observation questions as they explored the village.

These pages display nearly fifty of the scarecrows. Click on the thumbnail picture to display a larger photo.

We have split the collection over three separate pages, as a single page would take an excessive time to load. Click on the links to move between pages.....

Visitors who arrived by train were given directions to the village..........

Sporting themes were evident, including the Ski Crows, a cricketer, and at least two fishermen. The notices stuck to the fisherman fishing in the paddling pool read "My wife says 'if I go fishing again she'll leave me' (I'm really going to miss her)" and "Good morning, no I haven't caught anything. I haven't even had a bite, now sod off and stop bothering me".

The England football supporter was on the Subs' Bench, while there was a reminder to visit the Wingate Centre gymnasium, just outside Wrenbury, to avoid getting a body like this!

Lucinda Clippity-Clop is off to catch her horse, but two other riders have already had problems. The rider trying to jump off the garage roof is busy encouraging her mount, "it's only a little drop fence, honest...." but someone else has obviously been thrown off attempting to jump the leylandii.

The pig farmer was judged as the competition winner, due in no small part to the detailed little piglets.

Inevitably, school activities inspired a number of scarecrows. Both boys and girls go to this school, but they are seen safely across the road by Lollipop Lil.
