Scarecrow Trail 2004

Despite the first wet event in 5 years, the 2004 Scarecrow Trail and Summer Fayre kept up the superb standard and high attendence of previous years, with the rain failing to dampen the enthusiasm of either the scarecrow builders or the visitors. The end result is an event that is enjoyed by both villagers and visitors alike.

Competition voting was as close as ever, with this year's entries being better than ever. Last year's Wallace and Gromit was joined now by Shawn the Sheep, and this was enough to secure the vote over what was probably the largest "scarecrow" we have ever had, the amazing King Kong effigy at Wrenbury Heath. Altogether, nearly forty different scarecrows were voted for, and the winners are given below:

First:
#59, Wallace, Gromit and Shawn the Sheep, by the Roberts family
Second:
#98, King Kong Comes to Wrenbury, by Rick, Zac and Kirk
Third:
#2, The Runaway Bride, by June Tomlinson

The following scarecrows (in alphabetical order) also received a significant number of votes

#30, Alice in Wrenburyland
#83, Engie Benjy
#55, Garden Party
#85, It's Scary Downunder
#21, "More tea, Vicar?"
#117, Ride of the Valkyries
#15, Scooby Doo, Where are you?
#74, The Wrenbury Website
#90, Thomas - off the beaten track

Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to everybody who made a scarecrow - without your wonderful efforts there would be no trail.

All 147 scarecrow photos are available below. This includes a considerable number of additional scarecrows that were not entered for the event, so were not in the event guide. Images are relatively highly compressed, to minimise download time while still maintaining acceptable quality.

We have broken the scarecrow listing down into several pages, following the maps in the printed scarecrow programme. This stops any one page taking too long to download. Click below on the section you are interested in:

If a scarecrow is missing, it was not available when the photographs were taken. If you have a picture of it, we would be delighted to hear from you. Can you spot which scarecrow is actually a real person dressed as a scarecrow....?
